Handmade statue Dieu Barong
Barong is an important figure in Balinese mythology, known as the king of the spirits and the leader of the good forces. This figure is the enemy of Rangda, the demon queen, and their struggle symbolises the eternal battle between good and evil.
Characteristics and symbolism:
Barong is often depicted as a masked figure, usually an unknown creature called Keket, and appears during holidays in Bali, Indonesia.
He symbolises health, good luck and protection from evil forces.
In several regions of Bali, Barong is described as another animal, such as a wild boar, tiger, snake, dragon or lion.
The Barong dance, depicting the battle between Barong and Rangda, is a traditional Balinese dance that emphasises the cyclical nature of good and evil and the importance of harmony and balance in the world
