Antique wooden decoy ducks (spot-billed duck and pochard)

A unique set of antique wooden decoy ducks, comprising a spot-billed duck and a pochard. Both specimens have a beautiful, authentic appearance with a lovely, weathered patina and characteristic shapes.

Wooden decoy ducks were traditionally used during waterfowl hunting. These decoys were usually hand-carved and painted to mimic various duck species as realistically as possible. By placing them on the water, they attracted passing ducks, giving them the impression that it was a safe place to land.

The goldeneye (Bucephala clangula) and the pochard (Aythya ferina) are both diving ducks. When crafting these decoys, the distinctive body shapes and colours of the different species were taken into account.

Nowadays, these wooden decoys are sought-after collectables and splendid examples of traditional folk art. This unique set forms an atmospheric decorative ensemble, bringing together craftsmanship, nature and hunting history. A real eye-catcher in both a classic country-style interior and a modern, minimalist setting.
