Gorgonians, sometimes known as horn corals or bark corals, comprise around 1,200 species found in all tropical and subtropical seas. Fan-shaped, their skeleton is made of a flexible yet hard substance called gorgonine. Like other corals, gorgonians are generally attached to hard substrates, but some species can be found on sandy or muddy seabeds.
