A reproduction of a coral from the lagoons of Oceania. Coral is, in fact, an animal belonging to the phylum Cnidaria. Corals generally live in colonies of individuals known as ‘polyps’, which form ‘superorganisms’. Each polyp secretes its own exoskeleton; depending on the species, this exoskeleton is either hard or soft. Our collection of synthetic corals is handcrafted, faithfully reproducing the texture of these living specimens, most of which are now protected. Presented here on its antique, weathered sandstone plinth, just as one might find in a genuine period cabinet of curiosities.
