This plaster head is a fragment of a representation of Hercules.
The work originates from the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles and was probably part of a considerably larger sculpture. Such plaster fragments were often used around the turn of the century for academic study and teaching in anatomy and classical sculpture. The object dates from around 1900 and is presented on a handmade metal museum support.
