This sculpted head is directly inspired by the head of Benevento in the Louvre Museum. This bust, discovered in Herculaneum and created during the Greco-Roman period, reinterprets an artistic tradition that sought to combine idealisation and naturalism. In ancient times, sculptors paid particular attention to the eyes, the true centre of expression in a statue. The eyes, often inlaid with glass paste, stone or ivory, brought the face to life by reflecting light and reinforcing the illusion of presence. Over time, these delicate elements have almost always disappeared from the remains that have been found, leaving the statues with empty stares! Our reproduction has eyes identical to those of its predecessors, giving it a strikingly human appearance! Presented on a black metal base in museum style!
